About

Object Number: E642

Collection: Eastern Art

This figure of a tortoise with its head raised is earthenware with an opaque green glaze and gold around its shell and on its head. It is one of the remaining pieces of green glazed earthenware from Burma held by the Museum from what was once a larger collection. Like elephants, tortoises have a significant place in Burmese culture.
