About

Object Number: MG 8272

Collection: Ethnography

A Chin helmet acquired by Frederick Duncan Raikes in the late-nineteenth century from the Chin Hills, in the north of Burma bordering India. When Raikes served in the Anglo-Burmese War of 1886 he fought alongside some Chin people and was impressed by what he saw as their martial characters. He may have collected this helmet to represent this.
